Waddle's World

A win is a win is a win

I have to be honest with you, last week I wasn't visibly upset by the loss. As I mentioned, there is no shame in losing to the Chargers in San Diego. But I'm not real excited by yesterday's win over the Chiefs, either. As I was watching the game, I was saying to myself that it's gotta be easier than this, right? You have to beat an inferior Chiefs team by more than 10 points. Don't get me wrong, a bad win is better than a so called "good loss," if there is such a thing. Let's look at the good and the bad.

Good

Cedric Benson made improvement. I thought Benson ran hard, with more vision than in Week 1. The numbers were good, 101 yards on 24 carries. That works out to 4.2 yards per carry, which would be outstanding if he can maintain that pace. Benson reached the century mark despite another average performance from the O-line.

Another great day from the defense. After limiting LT to 25 yards on 17 carries, they contained LJ, allowing just 55 yards on 16 carries. That is more than acceptable. Lance Briggs and Brian Urlacher were everywhere and look dangerous playing closer to the line of scrimmage. Tommie Harris is back to being one of the league's most dominant down lineman, and Danieal Manning was fantastic in his return to the starting lineup.

And can we say enough good things about Devin Hester? I would pay to see him play in person, and for my money, he is the most exciting player in the game today.

Bad

Once again, we got an up close look at "Bad Rex." As efficient as he was in the first half, he was that bad in the second. In fact, I thought he played better against the Chargers. For the time being, Rex is gonna have to get used to the heat, because opposing coordinators are gonna blitz him relentlessly until he proves he can make them pay.

As I mentioned, the offensive line was less than impressive once again. They allowed three sacks for the second consecutive week and didn't create much space in the running game. They have to return to their dominant form of 2006.

So after two weeks, the Bears are where I thought they would be. The defense is dominant, the special teams are the best in the league, and the offense continues to be a drag. The formula was good enough to get them to the big game last year. It won't be good enough this year. They must get more out of Rex in the coming weeks. A solid outing in front of a national TV audience would go a long way in comforting the Soldier Field faithful.

For now, let's just be happy they got past the Chiefs.

Hey Waddle, I remember in 1985 when you played with concussion after concussion and the Punky QB played hurt all the time, not once do I remember any of you guys saying "It's good enough" OR "It doesn't mean anything", now, I ask you, and be honest with your answer: Would you guys have looked up to GROSSman in 1985 the way you looked up to the PUNKY QB?"

Is everything "Bad Rex's" fault? When are the tailbacks going to learn how to pick up a BLITZ? And what about Mohammad going to catch a ball? Thank god for Devin Hester!

What is it going to take for Lovie to pull the plug on this guy? I mean what does Rex have to do to lose the QB job?

Is there a worse coach in the NFL right now than Herm Edwards?

Think Rex would be more accurate and more relaxed if the Bears ran the shotgun more often? Rex is so slow in his drop and such a shrimp that the extra three or five steps backward can't be helping him.

What makes all these Bears fans think that Brian Griese is a better option? Or even ... gulp ... Kyle Orton? Bears fans, LISTEN PLEASE: There is no better quarterback on the Bears roster and there is no better quarterback on the free agent market or available for trade. Just suck it up and ride out the season. This is Rex's contract year and if he's as bad as you all think he is, then he won't be here next year. Booing doesn't help anything. It just leaves your voice hoarse.

Yelling at Rex not only makes me feel better, but my doctor says that it is therapeutic.

Posted by No better option on [2007-09-18 12:35:56] "There is no better quarterback on the Bears roster" Well now, I guess we will never know unless Coach Lovie pulls the GROSSman out sometime soon. Lets say the DEFENSE doesn't show up to play a few games, will the bears win OR LOOSE? They will loose I say! What was the point difference in the Super Bowl? How many points were scored due to GROSSman's inability to rise to the occasion? I say we call the PUNKY QB BACK OR BETTER YET "THE FRIDGE" :)

Boy, you Rex-bashers don't know the first thing about football. You can talk a big game on a message board but don't you think that Lovie Smith and Jerry Angelo know more about football than YOU? If you don't, you're an ignoramus.

Do you Rex-haters want to see Brian Griese or Kyle Orton because you want somebody NEW to be booing at? Are you just getting tired of booing the same guy that you just want to make change for the sake of change? Because you certainly don't want to improve the offense by calling for either of those duds.

Larry Hoarse, I feel sorry for you. Your doctor must be Jonathan Quinn. Or Chad Hutchinson. Or Craig Krenzel. Or Kordell Stewart. Or Henry Burris. Or Chris Chandler. Or Jim Miller. Or Cade McNown. Or Shane Matthews. Or Moses Mareno. Or Steve Stenstrom. Or Rich Mirer. Or Dave Krieg. All quacks who want Rex Grossman lumped in with them, but it ain't gonna happen.

What are you booing fans thinking? Are you fans? When we are at home the advantage is that the fans get involved in the game. Do you think booing REX is going to get him to play better? Every player tells us that when the fans get involved in the game , getting loud when they need us to can help the game . Tom Thayer says it every week! Wake up people we went to the Superbowl!!! How many years has it taken? So shut up and cheer, support your team, that is what FANS do!!!

Hey ''''True Bears Fan'''' I am supporting my team DA BEARS I'm doing it by hoping someone gets rid of GROSSMAN so we can not ONLY GO TO THE SUPER BOWL but WIN IT THIS TIME
