Disaster in Detroit
Published: September 30, 2007 - 21:00:23
Well, my worst nightmare came true. A Bears loss to a pitiful Lions team, coupled with a Packers win over the Vikings leaves the defending champs 3 games back in the division. So many disturbing things from today's game.

1. Brian Griese made the same catastrophic mistakes that got Rex benched. Three picks, two in the red zone and one returned for a touchdown was more than this team could overcome. 2. The offensive line was very bad again, failing to create running lanes and getting Griese sacked 6 times. 3. Cedric Benson still hasn't established himself as a difference maker. 4. The receivers continue to drop passes. This Bears offense need to step up and finally carry the load with their defense decimated by injuries. They fell flat on their face! Speaking of that defense, they played with the heart of a champion, shutting down the Lions for 3 quarters despite missing all of their starting secondary, Lance Briggs, and having a less than full speed Tommie Harris. The final 15 minutes proved to much for a unit that is less than 50%. Even an electric kickoff return for a touchdown by Devin Hester is buried by the offensive ineptitude. And unfortunately, it doesn't get any easier next Sunday night in Green Bay. Brett Favre is having a stellar year leading the Packers to a 4 and 0 start. Hard to feel confident that the Bears can turn it around, on the road, against an undefeated team. For now, I'm trying to find something to grasp at......and I'm coming up empty.

Seems like a 6'6" TE would be a good target in the red zone????? Paging Ron Turner use all your weapons, get Olsen and Hester the ball!!!! These 2 guys were the upgrade that the coaches and fans were excited about in the off-season on offense, 1 ball between the 2 of them?? What will we have to wait till there 5 year vets before we throw them the ball?? The one drive they had that they scored on they used 3 step timing routes to get the ball away quick and then they went back to deep drops, WHY!

Get Hester the ball on swing passes, screens, reverses, draws, quich hitches right off the line, WHATEVER!! He makes one guy miss it's 6!! Olsens a nice big target over the middle can be a quick 3 step throw, this will help out the line, which stinks. Hwe has speed to get open quick that Calrk don't have. Lovie an Ron pull your heads out of your arses!!

I didn't mind the three picks, what really upset me was the receivers missing all the balls that were thrown to them. Maybe if they were able to catch the ball we might have been able to tuurn the tide in our direction. We can't lay the blame on Griese alone.

Nah Nah! I told you it wasn't my fault.

I am not happy with the picks, but at least Griese moved the ball. He threw for almost 300 yards!! The rust was obvious, but I think with another week under his belt he will get his timing back. Throwing Hester on offense is not as easy as it sounds. I really don’t think he understands the offense to be honest with you. There is a lot of terminology and reads that are involved that he has not mastered yet. The bubble screen will not work every play. See John Shoop on that one!!

This is one of the sorriest starts for a Bears team in my lifetime and I live in Milwaukee and I would do anything to have them go to Lambeau Sunday evening and begin to redeem this season before it's too late. Bring back Rex and let's quit blaming the Q.B. and begin to lay the blame on where it belongs in that is right in the coaching staff's lap. The offensive plays are so predictable it's unbelievable. Get Hester more involved and spread that field so Mr. Fumbleman has room to run.
