Office sought: Trustee
Bio: Village trustee since May '07; active with Island Lake Seniors, and past president of the group '04-'06; served with Senior Coalition Organization that put together Seniors Resource Guide; volunteer with Wauconda/Island Lake Food Pantry since '05; volunteered to help construct playground in Converse Park; completed high school, some college and many computer classes; occupation – retired.
What are your top priorities?
To focus more on village business at our board meetings; work with the department heads to get their input on how to cut expenses for the 2009-10 budget; and work with the finance committee to support new sources of revenue to offset losses caused by the economy.
What action, if any, should Island Lake take with regards to a new police station and a village hall renovation?
Regarding the police station, the next census will be the guide. When our population reaches over 10,000 we will be forced to build a new police station to meet state requirements for facilities of that size population. Review the estimated costs to see what can be cut to bring costs down, and proceed with a revised referendum. As for the village hall, the current hall requires many upgrades. The building is old. I think we shouild review the estimated costs presented to upgrade the current building and establish priorities.
Has Island Lake appropriately handled its attempt to place a well near Bob Wargaski’s property ? What would you do about that controversy?
I think the village followed the same procedures as it had in the past for drilling wells. The site was selected and the process of drilling a test well was started. The test well was very successful. The controversy started when Mr. Wargaski filed to establish the pig farm on his property. The controversy is over now and the village will move on.
Why are you seeking office?
I served two years as a trustee and I feel that the experience will allow me to better serve our village. I have attended and participated in many village functions and committees and I am sure that because of my background I will be able to contribute even more in the future.
Why are you the best person for the office that you are seeking?
I am retired and that gives me more time to work on village business that must be handled during the day. I have worked on budgets and computer systems for a variety of major companies and have organized and worked with many organizations. I operated my own business for several years, which provided me with a variety of experiences.
