Office Sought: President of Village of Lakemoor

Bio: Vice President for Maverick Pools, Inc. (commercial pool builder); Graduated from West Chicago Community High School.

1. What are your top priorities?

My top priority is to bring the peoples voice back into the village by establishing an open door policy. My second priority is the economy. We need to ensure that people of Lakemoor have all the help and resources available to them. In these tough economic times we need to support our local businesses and encourage others to do the same. My third priority is to bring accountability and professionalism back to the village. I strongly support having an accredited police force and having proper training to all village employees to provide the best possible service to our community.

2. Last year Lakemoor police blocked the entrance of property to ensure that a three-day event planned by Robert Mauch did not occur. Was the action taken by the village appropriate?

I was not involved with the village when this happened, so I can only comment on what I read and heard from people involved. To my understanding, a permit was granted and then revoked. The owner of the property acknowledged this and canceled the event. This causes me to believe that no police action was necessary and at no time does a village have a right to barricade someone’s property in order to prevent them from using their own property. Had the owner had the party without the proper permits, then legal action would be appropriate, but not until then.

3. What should be Lakemoor’s direction on growth matters? Should commercial development be a priority for the village?

I feel that we need to always be vigilant in trying to grow and expand. Commercial development is important because it gives us revenue to build our tax base. Right now, I feel we have other important issues that need our attention. People have become disengaged with the community. Part of this is due to the previous public infighting amongst the elected officials and people do not feel that their voices are being heard. I do not feel that we can move ahead to our full potential until we are united as a community.

4. Why are you seeking public office?

I am running for public office because I feel I can make a difference in my community. I believe that our village needs to take a fresh look at how it operates and move forward in a positive direction. I feel without a fresh face in a leadership role that people will continue to stay disengaged in our community and public programs will suffer.

5. Why are you the best person for the office that you are seeking?

I feel my leadership and business skills make me the best candidate. I can effectively manage employees, and I have vast experience and knowledge of budgets, contracts and negotiations. I work on municipal jobs and have a strong knowledge of how to effectively manage municipal projects. I feel because I’m not a former board member I can be an effective leader because I have no past animosity towards any of the board members. There is an old saying “the best experience a politician can have is no experience at all” and I feel this makes me the best candidate.
