Robert C. Wagner

Age: 47

Office Sought: Union Village President

Bio: Coral Township Highway Department Road Foreman, Village Board (12 years), Village President (8 years), Union Cemetery Board, Coral Cemetery Board, appointed by the County Board to represent District 6 for the Storm Water Committee

1) What are your top priorities?
I would like to work on getting a new well and treatment facility for Baron and Radium, get a sewer plant, add more storm sewers, control flooding, establish boundary agreements with neighboring towns, more commercial, industrial and retail businesses.

2) What can or should be done to promote Union’s tourism offerings?
Good question, with the Illinois Railway Museum’s, Thomas the Train weekends, the Historical Museum and Donley’s Wild West Town, we probably get close to 100,000 tourists a year through our town.

3) What are the greatest challenges facing Union?
Like all other towns, money. We only get $60,000 in property taxes a year and it
doesn’t go far. With State and Federal governments in the same shape, it’s hard to
get grants for new projects. The cost of everything is going up-like salt, asphalt,
utilities etc. It’s hard to keep up with the services we provide.

4) Why are you seeking public office?
To try and finish projects that I started 20 years ago, like flooding, storm sewers, etc., and try to make a difference in our village without being swallowed up by other towns. I would also like to try keep the small-town feel that we have now, where people want to raise their families in, and are proud to live in.

5) Why are you the best person for the office that you are seeking?
I have the experience, knowledge, and the leadership in the duties of the Village President and board. I have experience in dealing with everyday tasks that come about in running a Village. I think that my record shows that I have good working relationships with the Union residents, County Board members, and our State
