About the project

Using the Freedom of Information Act, The Associated Press collected the complete list of outstanding bills owed by the state of Illinois to local governments, social services agencies, private businesses and others for work done on the state's behalf. Because the number changes daily as new bills come in and older bills get paid, the numbers shown here reflect the amount owed on Sept. 9

Included in this database are recipients within the Northwest Herald coverage area, including all of McHenry County and some surrounding areas. Late Medicaid payments are not included in this database.
